    Posted: 22 Oct 2023 at 8:28am
I have an IFD 540 which has been great, but I'm running into an error loading the chart db from Jeppesen. The nav and obstacle databases load fine, and the chart db has loaded ever since the unit was new (3-4 years ago?), but now I get an ERROR shortly after I start the upload procedure. I've tried resetting the Jeppesen count and re-downloading the db as well as a new USB key, but still getting the ERROR.
Has anyone else seen this? And - what did you do to fix it? Is there a way of deleting the db on the IFD and trying again?
TIA

Have you tried a different download?   In other words did you try to download the file again from the Jepp website, or try reload the old one from last month?   There was an issue several months ago that caused this problem, perhaps you could review the situation, it had to do with the Change in type of approaches that was causing an error for some systems, mine included... It was the month when the RNP approaches were included for the first time in the file, and the Avidyne unit had to ensure that those new approaches were not downloaded without the updated software....I guess

I downloaded the current database several times (maybe 4?) -- also two different USB keys. But I did not try the old database.

Good info-- thanks!

Coming back to this with an update-- unfortunately not a good one.

My avionics guy said that updating the unit might clear the issue and since it should be updated anyway we went ahead and loaded 10.3.1.2. However, I still can't load charts and now there seems to be a new issue.

I have a JPI 700 with fuel flow, an Aspen Pro 1000, STEC 60-2 and the IFD540 (thinking about adding a 440 to the mix). Everything was working fine before this update... the JPI would send and receive fuel data, the Pro1000 works great, the STEC can fly a coupled approach. All good.

After the update, I still can't load charts (original issue) but now I get a "Configuration Error IFD Requires Service" message now. I also got a "No Comm Shadin FADAC" message that goes away.

We tried downloading the logs-- it took almost 2 hours to download 500mb to the USB stick, but then failed when trying to download the configuration log. (This USB port has always been slow-- even updating charts I would put the plane on a battery charger) But there was nothing obvious in the logs that we could see.

The strange part is that even with the "IFD Requires Service" error, everything *appears* to work fine.

I'm hoping that someone at Avidyne sees this and has some insights.... just about ready to pull it and send it in for service, but I don't want to do that if we're missing something.

We disconnected the JPI to see if the "Requires Service" error goes away, but that did not help.

Thanks!

I would contact tech support with this one.  They may be able to help without requiring you to send your unit back.  The event log will most likely tell you what the cause of "IFD Requires Service" is.  "No Comm Shadin FADC" is caused by a lack of communication over the port that is configured for the Shadin FADC.  Are you sure that the Shadin is connected to the same port you have configured in Mx mode?  What exact message do you get when attempting to load charts?  If you have pictures, that will be most helpful.

Well-- I do have pictures- but I can't seem to upload them here.
For the charts, it's just ERROR next to the chart selection (where you choose what file to upload) and a generic "Error detected "Copying Charts Files"

And then the other error is in operation- Aux / Alert page
Configuration Error (in yellow) Configuration Error IFD Requires Service
and
No Comm Shadin FADC- Communication Lost Shadin FADC.

The second error clears. I do have fuel flow info as I did before the sw update.

No physical changes at all.
