How hot does this normally get? It feels hot to the touch and checking temp with ir temp gun shows 140F.
It is mounted directly above IFD550/aircraft is 1975 M20C

Mine is mounted above my 2 IFD540s and gets so hot I can burn my fingers on the bezel.  My airplane is in the shop now and is getting an avionics cooling fan that directs air to the cooling ports of the IFD540s and some of the other avionics.  I don't think it should get that hot, although, I haven't had any issues since I've had it installed in 2013.

Mine is extremely hot as well. It is at the top of the audio panel directly above a Lynx 9000 which is directly above an IFD 550. It seems to be a common theme with the AMX 240.

My plane is going in the shop, hopefully this week for a dual GI 275 install and I'm looking at having them move the audio panel around while it's in there, put the 550 at the top and the 240 a the bottom. Possibly adding another cooling fan as well.

I have my 240 on the bottom of IFD540, Transponder, AMX240 stack.  It gets HOT!!!, adding heat to the two other units above it.  This cannot be good.

In the Cessna 421, it is wired so when I flip the night post-lights ON, the AMX240 dims.  Then it cools off.  It is all those button light.

Anyone know if there is another setting for that unit where I could step down the lights in the buttons?
