Rebooting the unit into maintenance mode to check or update settings/download logs/update database, the unit goes blank intermittently. The bezel lights stay on but the screen goes dark and unit dent respond to any button presses. A few times it came back after couple of short blinks and sometimes it would just stay dark and irresponsive. SO rebooting the unit and trying the maint menu again is the only possibility. It's so random that I can't relate it to anything ongoing but if the unit doesn't blink in the first minute after reboot then it stays and acts normal for as long as I need. I have tried it with doff Usb as well as with no USB with download logs option. So it took me 3 reboots today before I could even change one option in the menu before without the unit doing blank in the middle of change.

Someone else experiencing this behavior even while updating databases after the 10.3.1.2 upgrade?

Well, it may be, that no one else is seeing this.

It sounds like an ailing unit. :-(

Perhaps just the SD card?

Not an ailing unit for sure. Have seen his happen on 2 units and called support also. I was told it's normal. At least another member (RedBirdPilot) on this forum reported this after 10.3.0.x upgrade. This started happening after 10.3 upgrade and when I did the fallback from previous 10.3.0 upgrade back to 10.2.x, the problem went away too.

Also recently upgraded my unit from 540 to 550, the symptoms still show up in the new unit :).

SD card? you mean USB? I tried it without USB also through download logs, it only happens when entering into Mx mode and it's random. Rebooting the unit again and then going to Mx mode usually does it but it shouldn't be behaving like that. Since a power cycle usually solves the issue, support it calling it a normal behavior. All files and checksums are good for the release.

OMG YES.

I thought it was just me, but I have had this problem since installing my 440 last year.

"Normal," my foot.  C'mon, Avidyne...how about something like, "We're aware but have no solution at this time, other than a recommendation to power cycle until it becomes stable."

And then work in the background to fix it for a future release.  It's not "normal".
