In the Social Flight webinar this week with Dan Schwinn, Dan mentioned the ability to enter a flight plan in one go using dots between waypoints. At least that's how I understood it. I have never heard of and Jeff Simon hadn't either.

Anyone know what this means exactly and how it works? I understand this is an alternative to entering route/FPL one wpt at a time using the KB and Enter or knob after each. Entering a wpt via the KB (either on-screen or the separate KB) complains as soon as a dot is entered, so this must be something else.

Could he have been referring to the upcoming PFD, or something.

Could he have been referring to ForeFlight?
I don't use it, but in my preferred program, IFly
you can enter a flight plan all in one string with just a space between identifiers.

I don't believe so. The discussion at the time was about the various ways the IFD supports FPL data entry, including the external KB. I don't recall mention of any EFB product. Transferring a FPL entered on an EFB to the IFD was not mentioned AFAIR.
Here is the video. The relevant exchange was just after minute 27.

That was implemented way back when for R9, which had a dedicated keyboard.  The capability still exists for IFDs.  You can exercise it using the bluetooth keyboard.  It's good for entering a long sequence of directs.

It works!

Tried it in the aircraft today with the dedicated keyboard. The "." works like an "Enter". Since on the dedicated keyboard one can just start typing a waypoint without the need to bring up the keyboard on the IFD, typing a waypoint, dot, waypoint, dot, etc enters each waypoint in sequence on the IFD FPL page.

One learns something new about the IFD every day! I'm sure many knew this already, but it's new to me.
