Is there a way to create an abeam to a fix on a current flight plan on the IFD?

sometimes the atc asks us to report when abeam a VOR / airport, and my old GNS430 had a way to insert a temporary abeam waypoint to the current route

There's no abeam points function in the IFD.  You could do some crazy stuff with user waypoints and the flight plan, but the best way I can think of would be to just use the Designated Waypoint datablock.  Enter the VOR/Airport into the datablock, then monitor the bearing until it's 90 degrees to your course.

Anybody else with a better idea?

Use the Offset Route or Rubber Banding feature.

Yes - rubber banding seems to be a good solution - pinpoint with your finger the place abeam / where the atc told you to report, create a temporary user waypoint and wait for it to fly by.
