Quote Very little mention of the powerful altitude constraint functionality in the docs, and no mention of the Boeing Banana -- that will be included in first release, will it not? .... We view it as needing to know current vertical speed and in R9 we use the air data supplied VS.  We elected not to use GPS derived vertical speed in this release because if you are not in autopilot vertical speed mode (or something similar) then that range-to-climb arc tends to breakdance all over the display.  Unlike a true integrated flight deck, the IFD540 does not know what autopilot mode you happen to be in.

I am most saddened to hear that it will NOT be available. Although I understand your concern about its stability when not in a stable autopilot mode, it surely could be a user controllable feature either in the setup, or as an LSK option. This is one of those gee-whiz features, together with the multiple altitude restrictions, that would really help set the IFD540 apart from others, and is of immense practical value.

This kind of software feature is available on at least one tablet based software app. I've used it, and found it to be quite workable, even when handflying.

I truly hope that you reconsider the availability of the range to climb/descend arc.

Q. But, that begs the pregnant question, you DO at least provide a digital value for the VSR required to meet the next (and subsequent) altitude constraints, yes?

Range-to-Climb remains an existing item on the list for potential future features.   It was a favorite in R9 and has some strong internal backers.

As for VSR, yes, that exists as a datablock option in this release.  And it performs like what you're looking for.

Yes, I (nervously) searched through the docs, and found the VSR datablock item. Sure hope you bring the arc back.

Steve -- for now I am going to have to go out and edit the "arc" out of all my posts about "super cool IFD540" features.  ;-)
