Well, did some more avionics work and with the changes in the ASPEN install manual, the shop was convinced to direct feed the 429 output to the IFD540. It still supplies the ACU2, but now Y's before it to go to the IFD.
 The cool thing about this "heading bug", is that it mirrors the ASPEN heading bug only while the autopilot is in raw heading mode, when switched to GPSS, the heading bug on the IFD reflects the GPSS derived heading steer. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 27 Jun 2015 at 4:03pm |

Not sure of the release/version of the IM. There was a change very recently in the language regarding this point, one of the threads here alluded to it. That said, it still remains a little open to interpretation, I had to do some convincing.
My shop mused that the basis for the initial restriction (during ASPEN certification) was that older avionics may not have been able to deal correctly with the plethora of data that was fed out. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 27 Jun 2015 at 4:09pm |

So you branched the 429 output - one to the ACU2 and one to the IFD? Is that right? The same would then be doable if the ACU were an ACU1, right. Would that not provide baro alt as well?? DMG

Correct, and Yes & Yes!
The ACU(2) itself does need the 429 data as well.
I still benefit from the ACU2 in my particular setup, because of the limitation of only one airdata input allowed on the 232 channels, a 430W holdover. But, that limitation is on the books to disappear as well.

It looks like the relevant part of the Aspen installation manual is section 8.2.6, Aspen document A-01-126-00 Revision H, page 82-225.
The ACU transmits the following labels on P3 pins 4 and 5 for GPS receivers and systems that require low speed ARINC 429 magnetic heading and selected course. ARINC Label PFD Data Label 100 Selected Course Label 320 Magnetic Heading |
