I'm not quite sure this is the best forum for this question, but it'll have to do.

My partner and I have started the ball rolling to put in an IFD540, AXP340, and MLB100 in our aircraft. He's Canadian, and I'm about to start a new job where it is likely that I'll need to travel to Quebec and Ontario; as long as we're upgrading the aircraft, we figured we might as well investigate Canadian compatibility. What combination of Avidyne equipment do I need to be ADS-B legal in both the US and Canada?

I believe Canada requires 1090ES met by the AXP340.  Therefore your IDF540/AXP340 should be acceptable.

Actually, I don't think Canada has any ADS-B mandate at all just yet, but they do USE the 1090ES format and your AXP340 will comply. Your MLB100 is acceptable in Canada, but not terribly useful once you're out of range of the FAA ground network, except that it will receive any UAT traffic on the air-to-air feature.

In short, you're good.

Yes, that is correct, there is no ADS-B requirement in Canada under FL180, and it is very unlikely that you will see one in the foreseeable future.

It is also very unlikely that there will ever be a TIS-B (on either band) or FIS-B type facility in Canada.

Thanks, y'all-- reassuring to know that what we're planning on installing will be as compatible as possible.
