Terrain alerts during night ops cause the dimmed screen to go full bright until the terrain danger ends. This is akin to shining a flash light in ones eyes during night ops. Is this by design or is my IFD540 not set up correctly? I suggest that the screen brightness setting not change during terrain warnings and that only the soft key or AUX keys go full bright or flash to get one's attention.

Whoa, this does not sound right. Our system was not designed to increase screen brightness during an FLTA event. Are you still seeing this?

Steve, I'll do another night flight and report back. Might be a couple of weeks though.

Concerning screen brightness (Sorry if this was covered somewhere else)...When I dim my screen for night flight, it dims gradually as expected by turning the knob but when I want it just a little dimmer, one more click dims it way too much and the screen is too dark. It seems like it dims very gradually with each click but then reaches a click where it dims all at once too much. Is there an adjustment for this? Obviously, I am using my units on manual adjustment and not auto.

Check out the installation manual section on the lighting control. You can go into maintenance mode and change the parameters to work better for you.
