Hi there,

Australia is about to introduce Baro-VNAV http://globalairspacesolutions.com/services/baro-vnav/approaches across the country.  Can someone confirm that the IFD440 is currently compliant for Baro-Vnav approaches.

More Australian specific info can also be found here in the PDF. https://www.casa.gov.au/file/152271/download?token=BO8i_5Lg

The definitive answer needs to come from Avidyne, but I believe the answer is "no".

In order for the IFD's to be Baro-VNAV compliant, the AFM would need to state compliance with AC20-138, which it does not as far as I can find. Also, if the IFD's were Baro-VNAV compliant then they would qualify as integrating both Baro-VNAV and GPS/SBAS for LNAV/VNAV capability and along with that comes an annunciation and source selection/prioritisation requirement which I cannot find anywhere in the IFD documentation (perhaps I just missed it).

Thanks Vince, sounds sensible.  I will be holding off putting in the dual IFD 440's until I get a response from Avidyne.

Release 10.2 of the IFDs do NOT support Baro-VNAV.
