As I've mentioned on my own thread PA23's work around using UDP sender works well.
An Android IFD100 would complete the Avidyne user experience no end. It's just not acceptable to blatantly favour Apple when their hardware is grossly overpriced, and their software support discontinued to ensure sales are regenerated. I know a lot of potential customers who've gone 'G' in protest at this policy. |

I agree this would be a pretty easy application for Avidyne to put out under their name, but for now the work around that I provided works for me and presumably others.

Avidyne has an open job for a mobile software engineer, and Android experience is listed as "desirable." I wouldn't read too much into this-- we won't be getting an Android IFD100 app-- but someone with those skills should be able to knock out an app for the Google Play store just to tickle the connection.

It is built into the IFD100, but the IFD100 is iPad only.

Need to trigger the IFD to recognize an Android device so that you'll receive ADS-B in and GPS position on the device? Currently Avidyne doesn't provide anyway to do this however it is pretty easy to do with the following steps. Note this needs to be done every time the IFD is turned on. The following is based on the assumption that the IFD is creating the Wi-FI network. On your Android device download the program called "UDP Sender" by Hastarin. Enter the following in the program. Destination IP: 192.168.0.1 Port: 5686, Text: AVISDK and leave Hex blank. Then
to trigger the IFD just hit the send button inside UDP sender and tell
the IFD to accept your device in the AUX page, at that point you can
startup whatever EFB you want to use on your Android device and as long
as you have ADS-B over Wi-Fi enabled you'll get the GPS and ADS-B in
(if the IFD is receiving it) telemetry. If
the IFD is a Wi-Fi client to another device such as a stratux then
things get a little more complicated but it is doable, just takes a
little more effort and know how. Once
you configure UDP sender, it retains the information you programmed in
it so you only have to open it and hit send next time. |
