Only owned my plane for six weeks but I have already done three updates.
First two went smoothly.
The third was a nightmare.
At first, with the 4 GB USB drive inserted, the boot goes right past it to the splash screen.
I tried reformatting the drive, installing the file, a couple of times.
Finally it would query the drive but it would say drive not FAT 32. Well that is not correct because JDM wouldn't transfer the files over if it was the improper format.
I finally transferred the files to the drive I had used for the IFD440 and it update.
I bought another drive (16GB this time), formatted it to FAT 32 and tried again yesterday.
Same error, it sees the drive and queries it but it says not FAT 32.
Anyone else ever have this issue?

I had an issue with my IFD540 that I still need to get repaired. One day I found a little green square printed circuit board on the floor of my 182. I couldn't figure out what it was until the next time I tried a database update and the unit wouldn't recognize the USB drive. Upon closer inspection I could see the little support board inside the USB connector was missing. It was a pretty clean break. The piece I wound was perfectly square, not with a ragged broken edge. I have no idea how it snapped off so cleanly. I'm fairly careful when inserting the pen drive and I'm the sole owner of my plane and the only one that does any kind of upgrades to the IFD.

It is possible that there is an issue with the contacts of the USB connector that results them making a good connection with some cards, but not with others. The USB connector could be starting to become unreliable.
