Sitting on the ground, in the hangar, playing around, and I noticed that the ETE values filled in, in a flight plan I was loading.

Q1) Cool feature that it does it, but wondering what airspeed value it uses, when you are motionless on the ground and not in the air?

Q2) When you are in the air, does it rely on your current airspeed (GS) only?

Just looked it up.

"Book values" are used on the ground and are contained in an internal file.  We built the software design to handle multiple different aircraft types but that became a mess in implementation so for now, the current values are Cirrus-like.  In the air we use current groundspeed.

A suggestion is to use the average speed ground speed stored in IFD540 for ground calculations if there is enough data (hours) stored.    Cirrus average works well for me but that would not be very accurate for a Cessna 150 or 172
