Not sure where else to post this...

I'm experiencing a problem with the forum, and I'm wondering if anyone else sees this behavior.

I always log in and then click the "New Messages" link to see what's new since my last visit.  I then go click on the yellow arrows next to each thread listed to jump to the new posts.

Most of the time, this works.  However, every once in a while, a post will get "stuck".  Even though the site correctly tells me when new content has or has not been posted to the thread every time I log in, when there is new content and I click the yellow arrow, it does not jump to the new content, but rather always takes me to the same spot in the thread, requiring me to scroll forward to find the new content.

Example:  the "IFD Software Release 10.2.0.0" thread.  For several days now, every time I click the yellow arrow to see the "x new messages" posted since my last visit, it always takes me to the same post from Mar 5 on page 11:   http://www.avidynelive.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1025&PID=14638&title=ifd-software-release-10200#14638" rel="nofollow - http://www.avidynelive.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1025&PID=14638&title=ifd-software-release-10200#14638 .  I then need to scroll down, click on page 12, and then scroll down again to hunt for the new posts.

Not all threads behave this way.  One or two others might exhibit this "stuck" behavior, but all the rest will correctly jump straight to the new content when I click the yellow arrow.

This has happened several times before.  Eventually, the problem will clear up and I will start seeing only the new messages again, until the next time it happens.  At any given time, it seems like 0-3 threads will be "stuck" like this, but which specific threads are affected changes over time.

Note that I log in from multiple computers, and the behavior is the same on all of them.  Thus, it seems to to be a forum issue, not a local PC issue, but I don't know if it's a global issue or if it only affects me.

Does anyone else see this behavior here?  Does anyone know a way to clear it?  (I've looked for a setting to "mark all threads as read" thinking that might reset things, but I don't see anything like that.  I've tried unsubscribing from all threads, but that didn't change the behavior.)

Hi MysticCobra-

I also observe the behavior you describe. I do not have a solution to offer.

Bob

Yup.   I've been seeing exactly the same behavior.  Certain posts are "sticky".

I'm not sure the behavior actually clears up - many times I've observed that a newer, later post becomes the new "sticky" one.

Same here. Happens from time to time. You just have to scroll all the way down.

* Orest

Yep, I've seen this too.

That particular thread is the only one where I have observed this.  It has been that way for many, many months.  That thread has over 500 replies.

My theory is that the software has some kind of limit, say 255 or so, such that instead of taking you to the last post, it takes you to that internal limit.  If a thread has less replies than this internal limit, it works fine.  That's my theory.  The posts aren't numbered like some forums, so I can't say for sure, but it always takes me to page 8.  I just click to the last page to see the new posts.

It's annoying, but Avidyne is footing the bill for the forum and really has provided unprecedented access to the product managers, so I ain't complaining.

Not really complaining.  Just had never heard anyone else mention the behavior so I wasn't sure if I might be the only one experiencing it.

I can say though that in my experience, this doesn't happen on just long threads, and it definitely doesn't always happen at the same place in a thread.  For example, on the 12-page "IFD Software Release 10.2.0.0" thread, it always jumps me to a post on page 11 (and it worked fine for months until the problem behavior started).  However, on the two-page "IFD Release 10.2 Is Now Approved" thread, it always jumps me to a post about 3/4 of the way through page 1; that thread developed its problem behavior on the same day the thread was started.

I haven't been able to figure out any sort of pattern to the behavior.

This forum is a great tool; I'd hope that it would be a priority.

Damn!  There goes my theory!  I have only noticed it on the 10.2.0.0 thread, and it always takes me to page 8, but your experience seems to indicate a more insidious problem.

BTW, I didn't mean to imply that you were complaining.

Hmm.  Not universally.  I'm still stuck on p. 11 of 14 for "new" posts on this thread:   http://www.avidynelive.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1025&PID=14562&title=ifd-software-release-10200#14562" rel="nofollow - http://www.avidynelive.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1025&PID=14562&title=ifd-software-release-10200#14562
