Subject: Failed ADS-B Performance Report

My IFD440 provides the position source for my Garmin GTX-335 ADS-B Out transponder. On recent flights, ADS-B performance reports show a Service Integrity Level (SIL) failure.

My suspicion is that the GTX-335 settings are incorrect for interface with the Avidyne IFD440.

Please advise regarding the proper settings to interface my IFD440 to the GTX-335 transponder.

The FAA has given me a deadline of 45 days until I will no longer be allowed to fly in ADS-B airspace. I hope to have the problem solved before then!

Check the GTX335 configuration

The default setting for GPS INTEGRITY is 1E-3. A setting of 1E-7 is required for this STC.

Thanks! But what manual are you referring to? I have the GTX-335 Maintenance Manual and it isn't very helpful. Likewise the GTX-335 Pilots Guide. Neither is very helpful in addressing configuration issues. And neither contains the figures you referenced.

I'm told Garmin developed a GTX-335 installation wizard for Windows but it's evidently distributed only to repair shops and certified installers. I can't find anywhere to download that program.

Garmin really shouldn't make configuring its products this difficult!

Garmin wants their units serviced and installed by their dealers so these kind of problems don't happen.

6.3 GTX 3X5 Panel Mount Configuration
System and interface settings are shown in configuration mode specific to the GTX 3X5 installation. The
configuration settings are stored in internal memory. The configuration settings are also stored in the
external configuration module, if installed. The GAE module operates as a configuration module. GTX
3X5 panel mount units are configurable from the display or the GTX 3X5 Install Tool. Refer to section 6.4
to configure GTX 3X5 panel mount units with the GTX 3X5 Install Tool.
1. Push and hold the ENT key when the unit is energized to go into configuration mode.
2. Push and hold the OFF key until the unit de-energizes to exit configuration mode.
3. Push the FUNC key to cycle through the pages.
4. Push the 8 or 9 key to scroll up or down on the page without an active field selected.
5. Push the CRSR key to access items on the page.
6. Push the 8 or 9 key to cycle through the selections of an item on the page.
7. Push the ENT key to move within the page with a field highlighted.
8. Push the CLR key to move to previous selection on the page.
9. Push the FUNC key to exit the page.

Thanks so much for your help! My Garmin GTX-335 was installed by a Garmin dealer and certified repair shop in another state. But they failed to configure it properly and now I have to try and figure it out...

Some configuration data may also have been lost when I swapped my Garmin GNS-430W for the Avidyne IFD440. I was meticulous about replicating the 430W configuration pages, but you never know. So I've reached out to both Garmin and Avidyne tech support for their advice. I find the ADS-B Performance Reports from the FAA confusing, but perhaps they can help me figure it out.
