Today, Avidyne posted a Service Information Letter (SIL) that describes an issue in Cirrus aircraft that are non-primary engine ("SIU" equipped) variants who have recently upgraded to, or installed, DFC90 Release 2 systems.

A copy of the SIL is being mailed out to all known affected customers and dealers and is posted on the Avidyne website.

The SIL can be found at this link:

http://www.avidyne.com/support/downloads/index.asp - http://www.avidyne.com/support/downloads/index.asp

The SIL describes a situation, where for these aircraft, Underspeed alerts may not be suppressed during the landing phase.  This can result in what some people might characterize as nuisance alerts during the landing phase.

The SIL describes the issue in greater detail and also notes that a new EXP5000 PFD software release ("Rel 8.0.6") will be forthcoming this summer to address the issue.

Primary engine (aka "DAU-equipped") DFC90-equipped Cirrus aircraft are unaffected.
DFC90-equipped Piper aircraft are also unaffected.

Status Update (2 Aug 2012):

We have completed all the PFD code changes for Release 8.0.6.   We expect to conduct all the formal software testing in early August and then push for certification and deployment of this change in late August.

Status Update (19 Sep 2012):

We finally received TSO approval for PFD Release 8.0.6 today.  Deployment starts tomorrow (Thurs, 20 Sep).

The software can be loaded in the field so the PFDs do not need to come back to Avidyne for updating.

We will be updating the Service Information Letter (SIL) that covered this situation and the updated DFC90 Pilot Guide that will come out with the Aspen supported release will also address this behavior.
