I have an IFD 550 on Software V 10.2.2.0.A. The AHRS invariably fails to align, even if I initiate an alignment manually while stationary on the ramp. Everything else works great.

Any idea?

Your best bet is to start a conversation with tech support. Between this and http://www.avidynelive.com/ifd-440-loss-of-gps_topic2377_post27424.html#27424" rel="nofollow - your 440 problem , it sounds like there's something bigger going on.
