Happened to me the other day, busy on the initial climb out, asked to IDENT, a bit of a bump and my finger slipped down to the VFR button! Shoot!

Well, easy way to get the original code back  ...

Thanks for the pointer/reminder, Orest.  I'm sure that same thing will happen to most AXP340 owners sooner rather than later!

I was kind of wondering what might be the purpose of that feature. No longer.

In my local area (Washington DC Flight Restricted Zone and Special Flight Rules Area), flying with a VFR a transponder code (but not another incorrect code) results in immediate action against your pilot certificate. I've considered reprogramming the code to 7600, but instead settled for a remote IDENT button and hoping that if I do accidentally hit the VFR button, a quick second press will save me.

That is a very interesting observation. I have flown through it, and remember being very deliberate when my hand was close to the transponder.

In Canada we use 1000 for an IFR flight that does not have a code yet assigned, eg. taking off to get clearance in the air, it's an ICAO thing. It is pretty rare that I fly VFR, I may reprogram it to 1000 instead.
