IFD540 is showing a flag UTC mismatch when turned on and shows an incorrect time the unit. after a reboot the flag goes away and the time is correct. was doing this after sitting for a couple of weeks, now every startup requires a reboot to get the proper time match. Is this a common problem?

This has been an issue for a long time.  I have found it depends on the length of time, between sorties. If it is a couple of days, it doesn't happen, but more than that all bets are off...

Thanks for the reply. A real disappointment for sure having to reboot during taxi on almost every flight now. I emailed AVI a while back and didn't get a response. I guess the next move is a call to support>

I seem to remember an issue like this was corrected in one of the software updates. I'm not sure if it was the most recent update now a year or ore ago, or the one before that. What is the firmware level in your IFD540?

There is an IFD hardware mod to address this issue.  Contact tech support for more details.

I had the hardware mod done on my unit and it drastically reduced the occurrence of the UTC mismatch error but didn't eliminate it.

AVISteve,
I opened a ticket PS00150966 and the reply was go to a dealer and Initiate the return of the unit for repair.

I was told by the selling dealer, Avionics source, that as an Experimental I would not need a dealer. Obviously that's not true?  He has since left the business.
A lot of dealers will not work on EXP planes BTW.

As an experimental owner with lots of experience in the avionics world and capable of removing the navigator do I need to go through a dealer? Have left a message with a dealer near by. He has not returned my call yet and I would like to get this set up. Is this repair subject to a flat rate charge and a dealer charge for sending it?

Purchased a new unit in 2021, Had a problem, Bruce in support after looking at the files I sent said yes it has a known issue, don't remember the issue now, but instead of repairing my new unit He sent me exchange that had been heavily used. after a few software patches and a new plug for the usb port it seemed ok except for the occasional flag UTC mismatch.  This older exchange unit is the current problem child.

Please Advise as I just want a reliable Navigator trustworthy for some light IFR work

Thanks, Larry Schneider

You just need to go through a shop to do an RMA to get the unit back here.  I spoke with tech support and they're going to follow up with you.

I sent my unit back for the mod and it greatly reduces the occurrence of the UTC mismatch error, it doesn't completely eliminate it.  The longer you go without powering the unit up (and acquiring a GPS position) the more likely it is for the error to pop up.

Simple solution... fly more often :)

So the unit was sent in for the repair, took 6 weeks, at a total cost of 2882. Since reinstall less than a month ago everything worked fine UNTIL today. Flew for 40 minutes parked for an hour and got the run up area and here we go UTC mismatch so reboot the 540 reinstall the route with planes waiting in line. Am I expected to afford almost a 1000 dollars per year to keep this navigator functioning?
My question is what is the warranty period for a repair?
Why charge for a repair that does not address the problem?
Looking forward to a reasonable answer Please!

A follow up regarding my 540 repair. Thanks to a great dealer here in Glendale AZ, who worked very hard on my behalf, and  someone at Avidyne who took the issue seriously I am now a very happy camper.
My experience was less than stellar regarding customer service from Avidyne but now hopefully we can enjoy and depend on a reliable unit.
I wish I knew who at Avidyne was responsible for the end result as I extend a special  thank you to them.
Regards, Larry Schneider
