On the trainer app, during approach there is a LSK on the FMS that looks like a V with an arrow through it. What does it do?

Side note, I google showed me this has been discussed before but anytime I click to open a link for a topic previously discussed, I am automatically taken to the home page. Searching provided no results, either.

-V-> is "Vertical Direct To" and is part of enroute VNAV.  When you select that, VNAV will construct a descent path along the flight plan directly from your aircraft altitude to the altitude constraint associated with the selected leg and then immediately start commanding the descent.

P.S. I've got our IT team working on the forum links.  Looks like a hiccup when the forum was rehosted.  I tried some workarounds and found that you can copy the link and then manually change forums.avidyne.com to www.avidynelive.com.

Need to play with this some now that I have VNAV with the GFC500 :-D

Quote -V-> is "Vertical Direct To" and is part of enroute VNAV.  When you select that, VNAV will construct a descent path along the flight plan directly from your aircraft altitude to the altitude constraint associated with the selected leg and then immediately start commanding the descent.

Is this constructed using your preferred descent profile or does it do something else?  Let's say I'm 3 miles out from the existing TOD point and I hit the -V->  Does that put me at the lower altitude 3 miles sooner than the previous TOD (basically using my default descent profile) or does it still keep the same crossing restriction as the existing TOD (cross 1 mile before at altitude x) and just plan a slower descent?

You get a slower descent.

The GFC500 will not fly the VNAV with an IFD.
